New England is a Mecca of micro brews.
I haven’t lived here my whole life, but I’ve lived here (as well as other places) long enough to know that it’s one of the best areas to find some of the best beers.
Some of my favorites?
Long Trail
Wachusett
Harpoon
Smutty Nose
Notice I didn’t say Sam Adams? I think they have their high marks (Winter Lager, Oktoberfest) but overall, when I’m at the liquor store and I reach for a sixer, Sam’s not in the running.
I feel truly blessed up here in the cold northeast. What are your favorites? Think a different region has New England beat?
matthew.
White Birch in Hooksett, NH
Allagash in Portland, ME
Thomas Hooker in West Hartford, CT
Rock Art in Morrisville, VT
Jason
Definitely agree with Allagash and Rock Art. Can’t say I’m 100% familiar with White Birch and Thomas Hooker but I’m on it.
matt.
Long Trail and Wachusett are among my favorite breweries for sure. The Long Trail Blackberry Wheat and Wachusett Blueberry are incredible beers if you like a fruit kick in your brew.
The Pacific Northwest happily rivals New England with their high concentration of quality craft breweries. I am no beer expert, but beers like Anchor Humming Ale and Rogue Dead Guy Ale really give NE’s beers a run for their money.
I agree with Sam Adams too. Yes, it’s no Budweiser, but look at these lists of NE breweries and tell me you’d still prefer a Sam Adams.
