September represents the end of summer, but it is also National Honey Month. It was started as a way to promote bee keeping in the U.S., but we like to think of it as a good excuse to drink some cocktails that use honey as an ingredient.
Cranberry Honey Cocktail
This cranberry honey cocktail is so fresh and delicious and it just screams “New England in the fall” to us. You have to make your own cranberry honey syrup, but it’s totally easy and definitely worth it.
For the cranberry honey syrup:
Add these ingredients to a pot, bring them to a boil and then reduce heat and simmer on low until the cranberries pop (about 10 min.)
- 1 cup fresh cranberries
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
For the cranberry honey cocktail:
Shake the ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice and then strain into a glass:
- 1 1/2 oz. vodka
- 1 1/2 oz. cranberry honey syrup
- 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
Tennessee Honey Tea
This Tennessee honey tea recipe lets you celebrate honey without actually having to deal with the sticky stuff. Cue: Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Whiskey, your new best friend.
Combine all of these ingredients in a tall glass over ice, top with a squeeze of lemon and garnish with a sprig of mint:
- 1 oz. Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey
- 1/2 oz. Cinnamon Schnapps
- 1/2 oz. Triple Sec
- 3 oz. Unsweetened Tea
Apple Honey Cocktail
This apple honey cocktail is easy to make and tastes great. The original author of the recipe recommends starting with 1/4 oz. honey liqueur if you prefer cocktails that are a little less sweet (you can keep adding a little more at a time until it’s the way you like it).
- Muddle a handful of mint and 1/4 tsp. sugar in a cocktail shaker
- Add 1 1/2 oz. Laird’s Applejack (80 proof) and 1/2 oz. honey liqueur. Fill it with ice and shake for about 15 seconds.
- Strain into a rocks glass and garnish with mint
