At the beginning of June, when all of our beloved 350+ pound linebackers are vacationing off on an island somewhere, we wouldn’t expect the NFL to take up several spots on the Sports Center ticker. However, it seems Roger Goodell believes that no press is bad press, and has once again made the NFL the talk of the town. Rumors have been flying since May 11th, when we got word that The New England Patriots were being penalized for their involvement in the Deflategate scandal before taking home the 2015 Super Bowl title. The punishment that cut the deepest wasn’t the one million dollar fine or the loss of first round draft picks, but instead the controversial four game suspension of Tom Brady (aka the Patriots heart and soul).
It’s well-known all over the country that New Englanders are die-hard sports fans, so it is no surprise that the news caused quite an uproar. From sit-ins in the NFL headquarters lobby to a “Free Tom Brady” rally at Gillette stadium, it has been made very clear that the fans stand behind their beloved MVP 100%.
A local bar in Norfolk, MA is taking matters into their own hands with a support effort that’s right up our ally. Eagle Brook Saloon is showing their support and selling a “Free Brady Blonde IPA” to all his fellow fans who are fed up with the NFL’s bogus accusations. The ale is made by a local microbrewery and is selling for $6.75 a glass. Chuck Horne, the owner of the Eagle Brook Saloon, taking his bar’s efforts a step further and donating $1 for every “Free Brady” beer sold to the player’s favorite charity, Best Buddies! We’re sure all our Pats fans out there will need to sip on something to calm their nerves while they await Brady’s appeal which should be completed by June, and until then we suggest heading down to Eagle Brook Saloon!
