What do you do when one of the greatest drinking holidays of the year falls on a Monday? You celebrate as much as you can the weekend before and still have a drink on the day, of course. At least, that’s our plan for the upcoming Cinco de Mayo weekend.
There’s no other choice but a margarita (with a side of chips and salsa) to celebrate the festivities. Sure the ones you can get at your local watering hole are delicious but margaritas are so much better homemade with the right ingredients. Here’s our favorite recipe:
- 3 oz. tequila
- 2 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 oz. simple syrup
- 1 tsp. orange liqueur
- 1 tbsp. lime salt
To make the simple syrup, heat 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water until sugar dissolves completely. Leave to cool.
Start with a cocktail shaker and ice. Add tequila, lime juice and chilled simple syrup and shake until blended. Place lime salt (salt with a little lime juice) on plate and press the rim of your glass into it. Strain margarita into glass and add a few cubes if desired. Sip away.
