We’ve all heard the rumors of the health benefits of red wine: it helps your heart, makes you smarter, lowers blood pressure, helps you sleep, etc. But this time, it’s champagne’s turn to help us live a little longer. Recently, the scientists at Reading University have discovered that drinking three glasses of champagne everyday can actually prevent the onset of dementia and Alzheimer’s. We already thought champagne had some pretty strong healing powers, but this takes the cake.
Jeremy Spencer, one of the professors at the university, led an experiment on rats. He took the compounds found in Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, the grapes used to make bubbly, and tested them out on the rodents. Apparently, the results were astounding. The compounds caused an improvement in their memory and stopped the development of brain disease.
Soon, actual people will be testing out the theory over a period of years. There obviously still needs to be some serious research on the topic, but for now, I think we can all play it safe and drink three glasses of champagne a day, you know, just in case.
