You may have no clue what we’re talking about… or you may have noticed mead becoming increasingly popular on the drinking scene. What you may not know is that mead is one of the oldest alcoholic beverages around. And when we say old, we mean thousands and thousands of years old. There has to be something special about a drink that can hang around for that long, so here are all the basics about your soon-to-be favorite beverage.

What is Mead?
Mead is honey wine, which according to rumors makes you “happy drunk.” Find us one person that wouldn’t try that. And if you do then we will not want to hang out with them, cause if they don’t want to get happy drunk off of honey wine then they sound like no fun at all. It is literally created with water, honey and yeast, super simple, and the alcohol content can vary greatly depending on how it is made.

Where Can I Buy Mead?
Finding mead in your local liquor store is becoming easier and easier. There may not be a huge selection but with it gaining popularity again, it is definitely possible. If you’re having trouble finding it, ask the owner of the liquor store if they could possibly start ordering some. Even cooler: there are about 150 meaderies around the country (some of which can ship it directly to your front door), and we have even heard of a few bars specializing in mead.

Can I Make My Own Mead?
Absolutely. It is one of the easiest, most fool-proof alcohols to make… mostly because there is no one “right” way to do it. You know that thing you’re using to read this right now? Yup, your computer (or cell phone/tablet/other awesome internet device we haven’t heard of yet) can be your ultimate mead resource. There are a ton of step-by-step tutorials online and if you just go to YouTube and search “how to make mead,” there are several videos to get you started.
