Campari introduced a Lone Star limited edition bottle of Skyy vodka this July 4th. Dedicated to the state of Texas and giving Texans a chance to support U.S. service men and women, the Lone Star bottle will be priced at $18.49 a 750-ml. and will be available only in retail stores in Texas. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Boot Campaign, a charity based in Texas that is dedicated to military appreciation and veteran issues awareness.
Vision Wine & Spirits is introducing a new Spanish wine brand, Abduction . Selling for around $9.99 a 750-ml. bottle, Abduction’s line includes Galactic White, made from 100% Airen; and Cosmic Red, a blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Created by sci-fi enthusiast Robb Jacobs, Abduction features an alien on its label and will be promoted at sci-fi events as well as more traditional venues.
New England craft brewer Narragansett Beer has released a limited edition baseball-themed can to commemorate the summer season. Inspired by Narragansett’s historic sponsorship ties with both the Boston Braves and Boston Red Sox, the new packaging will be featured on all 16-ounce tallboy cans of the brewery’s flagship Narragansett (‘Gansett) Lager.
A bottle of The Macallan 50-year-old sold for $27,000 at Bonhams Whisky sale in Edinburgh last week. This was the highest price ever paid for the storied single malt Scotch. The price exceeded projections by around 50%. Only 500 bottles of The Macallan 50-year-old — distilled in 1928 and bottled in 1983 — were produced. The previous highest price for the The Macallan 50-year-old was $21,000.
Stolichnaya vodka is adding a new flavor extension, Salted Karamel, this month. Selling for $23.99 a 750-ml., the new flavor is billed as a balance of sweet and savory. “Next to chocolate, market research has shown that caramel is the most popular indulgent flavor offering and that savory flavor combinations are currently one of the fastest growing trends,” said Lisa Pfenning, category director-Stolichnaya at William Grant & Sons USA.
