There are some funky cocktail combinations out there. Mixologists will find the wackiest ingredients to incorporate into your Friday night drinks, leaving you with something like a mushroom martini or a Sriracha slammer. As odd as your boozy beverage may appear, you often find yourself actually enjoying whatever strange concoction you ordered at the club. And with that, we introduce the best of the best of seafood shooters—specifically, those using oysters. After all, it is National Oyster Day. We know not everyone is a fan of these ocean dwellers, but for those of you who love a couple of ‘sters on the half shell, you’ll want to pay close attention.
The Ordinary Oyster Shooter: (6 servings)
- 12 freshly shucked oysters
- cocktail sauce
- hot sauce
- 6 oz. pepper vodka
- 1 cup cracked ice
Put at oyster at the bottom of each chilled shot glass. In a metal cocktail shaker, chill vodka over ice. Add cocktail sauce and hot sauce to taste. Pour mixture into each glass, filling to the rim. Shoot ‘em back.

Tequila-Oyster Temptation Shots: (12 servings)
- Kosher salt (to rim glasses)
- 1 dozen freshly shucked oysters
- 1 cup chilled fresh lime juice
- 2 Tbsp. minced red bell peppers
- 1 Tbsp. minced shallot
- 1 tsp. chopped fresh cilantro leaves
- 1 tsp. chopped fresh parsley leaves
- 1 tsp. chopped fresh chives
- 12 oz. tequila
- ice
Rim each shot glass with salt and place an oyster in each. In a medium sized bowl, combine lime juice, bell pepper, shallots, cilantro, parsley, and chives. Pour 1 tablespoon of the mixture into each shot glass over the oysters. Pour tequila into an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Add about 2 tablespoons of tequila to each glass. Serve.

Bloody Mary Oyster Shooters: (6 servings)
- 6 freshly shucked oysters
- 1 cup chilled tomato juice
- 1/3 cup chilled vodka
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2-3 drops of Tabasco sauce
- salt and pepper
- pieces of celery (to garnish)
Mix together the tomato juice, vodka, Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco and season with salt and pepper. Put an oyster in each shot glass. Pour the tomato juice mixture over the oysters and fill each glass to the rim. Garnish with a piece of celery.
