Do you ever find yourself getting bored with your go-to booze? When you’ve grown tired of that mundane drink order, we’ll be here to walk you through what’s new and noteworthy this week:
Picaroon Maryland Rum – Picaroon is old time slang for “rouge” or “scoundrel”, and Blackwater Distilling Inc. thought it would be the perfect way to describe Maryland’s very first Grass to Glass Rum. On the market this week, the rum is considered to be a “grass to glass” rum because unlike other rums it’s made using 100% raw cane syrup in the place of blackstrap molasses, which is what’s left after desired grades of sugar and molasses are strained out. Both the white and gold rum are sure to please, and at the moment are only available to lucky patrons in the Maryland and DC area.
Boulevard Brewery
Love Child No. 5 & Saison-Brett – The Kansas brewery dropped two highly anticipated brewskis last week , Love Child No. 5 and this year’s Saison Brett. The Love Child No. 5 is part of a continuation and the younger sibling to Love Child No. 3 and No. 4. The Love Child is a blend of Flanders-style red ale aged in whiskey and wine barrels, coming in at a whopping 8.2% ABV! This year’s Saison-Brett, which was also recently released, is considered to be one of Boulevard’s best. Ambassador Jeremy Danner claims that after aging for three months the farmhouse brew brings funk and fruit with a whopping 8.5% ABV. We will also be on the look our for Boulevard’s line of colorful cans which will be released just in time for summer sipping, including Ulfiltered Wheat, Pop-Up IPA, and Ginger-Lemon Radler!
Bayou Select Rum – Down on the bayou in Louisiana, the Bayou Distillery is still keeping the craft of aging rum alive in the USA with their newly released Bayou Select Rum. This rum could not be more patriotic, made from Louisiana sugarcane, distilled in American Copper pot stills and rested in American oak barrels off the Mississippi River delta! The award-willing distillery was determined to have patience and develop a high-end aged rum in addition to their Rum family, and now it’s up to the southerners to judge!
LA Quintinye Vermouth Royal – Just last week the US was introduced to LA Quintinye Vermouth Royal from EWG Spirits & Wine. The French vermouth is sophisticated blend of white wine from the south of France and Cognac from the very same estate. The spirit is a tribute to visionary Jean-Baptiste de La Quintinye, creator of the Kitchen Gardens and Botanist at the Palace of Versailles. Believe it or not, even if you weren’t born into royalty you can still enjoy this Vermouth priced at a reasonable $21.99 per bottle.
