Let’s take a moment to look at our calendars. What’s that you see? It is October 14th? Does that mean—oh why yes it does! Today is National Dessert Day. And it’s about time. The day is upon us to celebrate the confection-y treats we indulge in after dinner. And lunch. And hey, while we’re at it, breakfast too. Dessert is the frosting to our cupcake, the chocolate to our peanut butter, and the salted caramel drizzle to our apples. It’s what makes our mouths water and what keeps us going after any coma-inducing entrée that threatens to end a night of eating. Dessert, my friends, is our soul mate.
So, what better way than to celebrate these heavenly blessings than to transform them into cocktails? I bet you didn’t see that one coming.
First up, we’ll be taking a nod from one of the all time best ice cream flavors, Rocky Road.
- 1 1/2 parts Effen Salted Caramel Vodka
- 1/4 part DeKuyper Creme de Cacao Dark Liqueur
- 1 part half and half
- Splash of simple syrup
- Salted caramel marshmallows for garnish
- Chocolate shavings for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake until frothy. Strain into a cocktail glass and relish in this marvelous combination.
Next, let’s get in touch with our minty side.
- 3/4 ounce Partida Blanco Tequila
- 1 ounce peppermint schnapps
- 3/4 ounce Godiva® Chocolate Liqueur
- 1 1/2 ounces cream
- Chocolate syrup and crushed candy canes for rimming
Using chocolate sauce to wet the rim of a cocktail glass, cover the rim in crushed candy canes. Combine all remaining ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice, shake well, and strain into prepared glass. Fight off urge to die of happiness.
Lastly, we’ll see how monkeys like to get their drink on.
- 1 ounce Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka
- 1 ounce banana liqueur
- Dash Van Gogh Espresso Vodka
- Dash coffee liqueur
- 1 ounce cream
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Pause. Shake vigorously. Pause. Strain into a cocktail glass and pause. To realize you’re drinking fake bananas.
