Thanksgiving is all about family, food, football, and drinks. No surprise here, but drinks are our favorite part. While most typically go for wine all Thanksgiving day – we don’t discriminate. Start with a cocktail, do wine with dinner, and finish with whatever you have left.
We love all sorts of cocktails but this year we’re making Hot Mulled Cider. A New England classic, this cider is flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, orange, and (of course) a little rum. Here’s our favorite recipe, and the one we’ll be serving our guests next week:
64 oz. apple cider (how to make your own)
1 apple cored
1 orange
4-5 cinnamon sticks
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¼ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon whole cloves
1 cup spiced rum
Heat up the apple cider in a large pot on the stove over medium heat. While it’s heating up, cut the apple and orange into ½ inch thick slices and add to cider. Add the cinnamon sticks, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Stir and let sit for a few minutes. Let the mix simmer for 5-10 minutes then add the spiced rum and serve hot with a cinnamon stick garnish.
Spending time with family and catching up over some great food and drinks is why we all love Thanksgiving. Is there a better way to give thanks than by making delicious drinks for the whole family? The answer is no.
