In the world of drinking, Jell-O shots don’t have the best reputation. All we can picture is trays filling a frat house fridge to appease the visiting ladies. However, the general idea behind Jell-O shots is good – delicious gelatin and liquor. We see Jell-O shots having a second life as women grow up and begin to host baby showers, bridal showers, birthday parties and other fun events. Of course, with that second life, the shots need a MAJOR makeover. We’ve found some fantastic gourmet Jell-O shots that will have your guests wondering when you turned in to such a Martha Stewart.
Mimosa Jelly Shot
We think these adorable shots should be regularly served at every brunch. Here’s what you need to make it happen:
- 1 1/2 cups fresh squeezed orange juice
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 3 envelopes Knox gelatin
- 1 1/2 cups champagne
- 1 drop orange flower water, if desired
- Edible flower petals for garnish, if desired
This makes 24 to 32 jelly shots and though the recipe has them cut into cute little circles, you can choose any shape you wish.
Mudslide Jell-O Shots
Mudslides are so delicious, but having an entire cocktail can be too sweet and heavy. These Mudslide Jell-O shots are the perfect balance because you can still get the awesome taste without feeling like you’re 500lbs for the rest of the day. You will just need:
- 1/3 cup Kahlua liquor
- 1/3 cup Bailey’s liquor
- 2/3 cup half and half
- 2 envelopes plain gelatin
- 1/3 cup vodka
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
The Bramble
These look more like yummy petits fours than Jell-O shots. They require a little bit more skill in the kitchen, but the results are definitely worth it. Here’s your shopping list:
- 6 oz. crème de mûre (blackberry liqueur)
- 5 packets Knox unflavored gelatin
- 1 package grape-flavored Jell-O gelatin
- 2 cups hot water
- 1 cup gin (vodka can be substituted)
- 2/3 cup fresh lemon juice
- 1/2 cup sugar
- Blackberries for garnish
The only downside to gourmet, beautiful, and impressive jello shots is that they require advance shopping and prep – so make sure you plan ahead.
