When it comes to avoiding hangovers people have lot of different rituals that they swear by. One of the most popular drinking rhymes is “beer before liquor, never been sicker” and/or “liquor before beer, you’re in the clear.” According to this theory, if you want to avoid not only the next day headache and remorse, but also throwing up your guts, the order in which you drink matters.

We’re here to tell you that this isn’t necessarily true. Here is what happens: given the bloating nature of the beer and how people drink it slower and more socially, people don’t over do it. As for liquor and drinks, people are more likely to #HAM. So when people switch to beer after drinking hard alcohol, they’re drinking beer more slowly and there’s less ABV. So it’s really not the order of the drinks, it’s how much/how quickly the alcohol is consumed.

If you need help remembering how to spare yourself from a brutal morning, we recommend “no water plus booze, tomorrow you’ll lose. We know it probably seems paradoxical to drink water while you’re drinking booze but it truly is the best way to avoid a hangover. Booze dehydrates and water obviously fixes that. If you don’t ant to have a cup water every now and then, you can also order your drink on the rocks. That way the ice will melt an you will have some sort of water entering your system. Also, it’s never a bad idea to chug some water before hitting the hay. Seriously, you’ll thank us the next morning.
